Oracle Database 19c -- Delete Tape Backups when SBT Libary is not Available

Problem

You need to delete tape backups from controlfile but sbt media library is no longer available, so when trying rman delete command you receive:

ORA-19554: error allocating device, device type: SBT_TAPE, device name:
ORA-27211: Failed to load Media Management Library
Additional information: 2

Solution

You need to use a dummy sbt driver to simulate sbt channel:

RMAN> allocate channel c1 device type sbt
      parms 'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt, ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=/tmp)';

Example:

run {
allocate channel c1 device type sbt parms 'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt, ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=/tmp)';
crosscheck backup device type sbt;
delete noprompt expired backup device type sbt;
}
